What is the preservation of the Bible? And why is it imperative to the Christian?

  • The main way that the God of heaven and eternity communicates with mankind is through His Word the Bible.
  • Man cannot know about God, eternity and heaven if he does not have God's Word to read.
  • Man cannot know the will of God without knowing God's Word.
  • God's main method of communicating His Word is from person to person.
  • God's method of preserving His Word is by passing it on.
  • If God's Word had not been preserved it would have been lost in the first century.
  • If the Bible was not God's Word it would have no relevance to our life today.
  • If the Bible was not powerful in changing lives its critics and enemies would have prevailed in destroying it long ago.
  • God's institution for preserving and propagating His Word it though assemblies of believers in His Word.
  • Preservation is imperative to the believer for without it one would not have the Bible to tell about salvation and eternal life.

•  Preservation is the doctrine that says that God's Word is from God, and His Word is eternal. Therefore no one can destroy, eliminate, correct, add to or take way from His Word.

•  Matthew 4:4 “But he answered and said, It is written , man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

•  Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law , till all be fulfilled.”

•  Matthew 28:18 - 20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

•  Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away .”

•  Mark 15:28 “And the scripture was fulfilled , which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.”

•  Luke 4:4 “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

•  John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

•  2 Timothy 3:16-17 “ All scripture is given by inspiration of God , and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly

•  1 Peter 1:24, 25 “ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

•  2 Peter 1:20, 21 “ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

•  Preservation pertaining to the Christian

•  John 12:48 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words , hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

•  John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth , is come, he will guide you into all truth : for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

•  John 17:8 “For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them , and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”

•  Acts 10:44 “While Peter yet spake these words , the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word .”

•  Acts 11:1 “And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God .”

•  Acts 18:28 “For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.”

•  Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

•  1 Peter 1:23-25 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God , which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

God's intent and ability to produce His Word and preserve His Word are inseparable.

  • For the believer today to have His Word twenty centuries later, after it's final book was written the Word had to have been preserved.
  • If one possesses salvation it is the direct result of God's Word, and He preserving it for all that will receive it, to each generation.
