The Miracles of Jesus

Meaning:  A special display of God's power

Title: Jesus' ability to transform by His mercy

Text: Luke 17:11-19  And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.   And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And    they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests.  And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And  Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?  There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Purpose: Jesus reason for coming to earth was clear.  Luke 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”  Of the numerous priorities Jesus had here the main focus was conversion, belief in Himself.  Secondly, Jesus was after sanctification.  The Levitical Law required that if a leper was healed he would have to be shown to the priest before he could again go back into the general population.  In the New Testament we have Jesus as our High Priest (Heb. 4:15 Seeing then that we have a great high priest …Jesus the Son of God).  The third priority Jesus had was to be glorified.  Two divine goals are accomplished when we glorify the Lord.  First God made us to glorify and worship Him.  Secondly, when we worship the Lord we are doing what fulfills are God given desire for worship.  He is glorified and we are fulfilled.  The final priority accomplished here is by faith the leper was made whole.

Principle: This passage illustrates how powerful Jesus' mercy is, and how powerful a tool it is when we show mercy to others.  Is mercy in your spiritual toolbox?
