The Miracles of Jesus

Meaning:  A special display of God's power

Title: Jesus asks the question, what is your spiritual net worth?

Text:  John 21:6 And he (Jesus) said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Purpose:  As believers we are called to be seekers.  We are to seek the Lord's will.  We are to seek the lost.  We are to seek to be holy.  We are to seek to know the Lord deeper.  We are designed to be seekers.  Why is that?  Because we are designed to need the Lord. In our passage today seasoned fisherman were unable to be successful without the Lord's direction.  We can definitively  say that the Lord's will was for the fishermen to be successful.  To have a large catch, if you will.  It is equally important to point out there would have been no large catch had the fishermen not followed Jesus' directions.   This passage as every passage in the Bible has one interpretation but potentially many applications.  Financial success is not promised in the Bible, but prescribed.

The prescription I believe God wants for every believer is for spiritual success.  God wants us to be fishing for souls.  Fishing for greater Bible understanding.  Fishing for ministry opportunities.  Fishing to glorify Him.  Fishing for fellowship with Him.  Fishing for fellowship with God's people.

Principle:  This passage begs the question.  What is your net worth?  Are you fishing in the right place?  Are you fishing at all?  The passage also illustrates two important elements.  First Peter's leadership “I go fishing” and follow ship  Jesus commands in v. 19 “Follow me.”  So Christian, What is your Net worth?
