The Scientific Accuracy of the Bible

Although the Bible was not written as a science book, yet when the Bible speaks concerning matters of science, it is scientifically accurate.

Scripture:

1. God created the universe ex nihilo (out of nothing).
“Things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Hebrews 11:3

2. Moisture in the atmosphere goes through a cycle of evaporation and condensation.
“He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings for the rain.” Psalm 135:7

3. The earth is spherical in shape.
“It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.” Isaiah 40:22

4. The earth is suspended in space.
“He…hangeth the earth upon nothing” Job 26:7

5. Tides vary in the late evening and early morning hours.
“He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.” Job 26:10

6. The stars cannot be numbered.
“The Host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured.” Jeremiah 33:22 Note: In 130 B.C., Hipparchus counted 1,022 stars; and in A.D. 200, Ptolemy counted 1,026 stars. Man still does not know the total number of stars in the universe.

7. The atmosphere has weight.
“to make the weight for the winds.” Job 28:25

8. The stars travel in certain paths.
“the stars in their courses.” Judges 5:20

9. The blood sustains life.
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Leviticus 17:11

10. The universe is running down.
“The earth…and the heavens…shall wax old like a garment.” Psalm 102:25-26

11. The stars are a great distance from the earth.
“And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!” Job 22:12

12. The stars differ in magnitude.
“One star differeth from another star in glory.” I Corinthians 15:41

13. The chemical composition of man and the earth is identical.
“He remembereth that we are dust.” Psalm 103:14

We have already seen that the Bible is God's Word because it claims to be and because it has never been destroyed. With each additional proof, we begin to realize that the evidence is overwhelming. Note: An amazing aspect of David's prophecies in Psalm 22 is that David was not aware of crucifixion as a form of capital punishment. As he was writing (approximately 1000 B.C.), the most common form of capital punishment for the nation was stoning.
